Saturday Thoughts + Link Love

I've seen a lot of posts lately about how to "beat the winter blues," or ones that praise the beauty of winter.  I get it, I used to be someone who actively bragged about loving snow and winter.  I still do, but now I also have a greater understanding for people who just absolutely hate it!

Above is a photo I took during either my junior or senior year at college, at SUNY Geneseo.  It's a state school about 35 miles south of Rochester, my hometown.  The snow definitely is pretty, and I do enjoy the crunch it makes under my boots...during the first few snows.

This winter has been fairly mild considering winters past, but we have had a few big snowstorms.  If you're not familiar with the area, Rochester is in western New York, about 20 miles south of Lake Ontario.  We get some pretty big snowstorms--not as much snow as Syracuse or sometimes Buffalo, but we know winter.  So far this year we've had one bad storm in December, and a few more rough days in January.

I'm used to it, and I know all the precautions to take while driving and all of that.  However(!!!), that doesn't mean I enjoy it!  No one does.  Driving in a winter storm is the absolute worst.  Walking in to work in -2°F weather with a windchill of -25°F is the worst (this happened this past week).  Having to leave my apartment 15 minutes earlier to scrape an inch of stubborn ice off of my car before going to work is the worst.  So please, don't tell me I should "beat the winter blues!"  I now fully support anyone and everyone who absolutely hates winter, especially because I know there are cities and towns even further north that get hit a lot worse than we do!

Anyway, on a more positive note...here's some link love!
I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing weekend!

  2. Oh man, I absolutely hate snow. I grew up in a very snowy part of MA and later lived in Rochester and Chicago, so you'd think I would be able to ignore it, but nope. Still hate it! My BF way back when actually went to Geneseo. Driving there on the weekend was delightful in the winter. :P

    1. Omg that stretch of 390 from Rochester to Geneseo is THE WORST! I broke down on the side of that highway no less than three times during my time there haha.
