February Epicurean Box Review and Coupon

Epicurean Box is a brand new food subscription that sends full-sized items from around the world. They aim to feed your inner foodie with new culinary products.

*Disclaimer: This box was sent to See, Shop, Love! in exchange for an honest review.

Epicurean Box just launched in January of 2017. They believe that seeking knowledge of the world through experience is the greatest way to gain pleasure and the boxes feature food items and accoutrements that will expand your food experiences.

They have three different box sizes to choose from:
  • Le Petite - two items per month for $25.99 per month
  • Enthusiast - four items per month for $45.99
  • The Epicurean - six items per month for $65.99
Currently the box only ships to the U.S. I input my address into the purchase form and $8.17 shipping was applied to ship to NY, so shipping seems to depend on where you live.

This is a review for the six item Epicurean box. There isn't a specific theme described, but based on the products this appears to be an Asian-inspired box. The box itself was nice and big and had a packet with information about the box and some of the items.

Of the six items included, the booklet only described two of them. I would have preferred to have a bit of information about each item, especially since some of the items may be completely new to subscribers and they won't know what they are or how to use them. The booklet also contained a recipe for Maseri curry with jeera, which will be interesting to try,

The box actually contained seven individual items and one of them is not listed in the info booklet (the Choco Puffs). The booklet included lots of information about the adzuki red bean paste and Maesri curry paste but none about the other items.

  • Falak Basmati Rice - This is a big two pound bag of rice that I will certainly put to good use. I love basmati rice; it's a slender-grained rice from India.
  • Japanese-Style Red Bean Mochi - I have to be honest, I am not the biggest fan of mochi. I know it's really popular and that red bean paste is also a popular filling, but I've just never cared too much for this snack. I will pass these along to a friend who does enjoy them, though!
  • Choco Puff - I'm not sure if these were a bonus item or not since there's no mention of them in the info book, but they look like little chocolate filled cookies and I think they're going to be delicious!
  • Cumin Seeds - I've used cumin before as a spice while cooking but I've never actually used cumin seeds (I always used the powder form). I'll have to look up how I can incorporate these into my cooking.
  • Maesri Red Curry and Green Curry Paste - Curry is a dish I haven't had much of so I'm very interested to try these pastes. I'm going to use the recipe in the booklet to make some curried chicken.
  • Canned Red Bean with Sugar Syrup - Red bean paste might sound strange as a sweet treat for those who aren't familiar with it but it's actually quite popular and beloved in Asian cuisine. I've had lots of pastries with this as a filling and it's a bit difficult for me to describe - kind of creamy with a slightly sweet taste. It's not overpowering but it's also not savory as one might think for beans. I found a recipe for red bean paste cookies with pancakes that I'm going to try with this!
Bottom Line: I think Epicurean Box is off to a good start. I would have liked to see more information about each item in the booklet. I was familiar with everything inside, but for someone who wasn't this may be a confusing box. I like that everything is full-sized and I think this box provides a great gateway to international cuisine, especially for those who don't have access to these types of products in stores near them.
