I was really excited when
Bonjour Jolie sent me one of their boxes to review because I've seen what they've included in past boxes and they have been wonderful! July's edition is no exception. If you're unfamiliar with this service, which translates to "Hello Pretty," they are a monthly subscription that will send you a box of feminine goodies and treats for only $16 a month, plus shipping. They ship to the U.S. and Canada, too (shipping within the U.S. is $5, Canadian is $10).
Bonjour Jolie is a premium box that's filled with goodies for women to pamper themselves during their period. They'll send you 25 feminine products of your choice, and they'll also include gifts ranging from specialty bath and body products to artisanal chocolates and more! When you join, you'll fill out a profile where you can give them more information about your cycle and choose which types of feminine products you'd like to receive (tampons, pads, and pantyliners). They even give you the option of choosing which brands you prefer, as well as what style of product (wings, thin, overnight, etc.). The profile also allows you to tell them about your hair type, skin type, and whether or not you have any specific allergies or health concerns. No one really enjoys talking about their period, so I love that this box makes "that time of the month" quite a bit easier to deal with! They also have a box that's tailored for young teens.
Before I talk about the products I received I wanted to point out their packaging. The box itself is on the larger size, but (obviously) still small enough to fit into a standard mailbox. What I really liked about the packaging is that on the inside flap of the box they have a sticker that says "Thank you for your business! We want you to know that you are appreciated!" I think that's such a sweet little touch. Messages like that really go a long way with me in showing that the company really does care about their customers.
Now the fun part! When I opened this box I was so impressed by how it was so neatly and beautifully put together. I couldn't wait to open up all of the little goodies! I think that this box is an incredible deal at only $21 (that's the price including U.S. shipping) because of the variety and quality of products they included.
This box was the perfect combination of pampering products for me! The first item I noticed was the sarong, which is the pink turtle pattern lying underneath all of the items. I unfolded it all of the way so you could see how cute it was! But anyway, here's the breakdown:
- Chiffon Sarong ($16) - As I said, this was the first item I noticed. I thought it was a scarf at first, which for all intents and purposes it could totally be worn as. I love the colors and I think the pattern is so adorable--the turtle is visible here, but there are also fish and other sea creatures on it! This is perfect for the beach as a sarong/cover up.
- Toot Sweet Caramels ($2) - I love caramels! I especially love artisanal caramels. These are flavored with salted honey and organic heavy cream. They only have four ingredients and are really delicious!
- Bigelow Tea ($1) - Five bags were included, and I'm not sure if everyone received the same flavors (mine were Pomegranate Black Tea, Constant Comment, Cozy Chamomile, Plantation Mint, and Perfect Peach). I'm a big tea drinker, so these will be put to good use.
- Bath Bomb by Spa Girl Soaps ($1.50) - When I saw the words "bath bomb" on the informational card I was so excited! I rarely take baths, but I still love bath bombs. Mine is in the scent "Lavender Chamomile," which will be perfect for a before-bed bath.
- Silky Body Powder by Bonny Bubbles ($1) - This is an organic and vegan deodorant body powder to help keep skin feeling fresh. The tube I received is in the scent "Garden Spa." All of these powders are talc and cornstarch free.
- By the Sea Body Lotion by The Fleury Girls ($1.50) - This lotion has a light, powdery scent. Methyl Paraben is listed on the ingredients list, and although I'm trying to steer clear of harmful synthetics, I'm not quite sure how I feel about parabens just yet. I've read a lot of conflicting accounts on whether or not it's as harmful as some say it is. I'll leave it up to you to decide for yourself.
- 100% Cotton Face Scrubby by Crochet Happy Mommy Of 3 ($1) - I have a few other face scrubbies like this one and I haven't used them yet because I don't want to ruin them! They just look so pretty that I feel like actually washing with them would just turn into a big, stained mess. I think I'm going to have to give in and use this one and just hope that the stains wash out, because I bet it works really well as a gentle exfoliator.
- Advil - I also received two packets of 200mg Advil (with two pills each inside), but if you don't feel you need this you can opt out of receiving it when you sign up.
- Feminine products - Bonjour Jolie sent me 10 pantyliners, eight pads, and 10 tampons (all of various sizes). This adds up to three more than the 25 they promise, which could have been a happy accident, or I'm assuming they sent me a few more for review just for the purposes of showing what kind of inventory they have.
So all in all, my box added up to a value of $24, not including the value of the pads and tampons. I'm just estimating, but I would guess that including those products would put the value up more toward $30+. Generally I'm not too concerned with adding up the values, because as long as I feel like I got my money's worth then I'm happy.
Bottom Line: I am very impressed with Bonjour Jolie. I think this box is well worth the price because they include such a variety of items beyond just the feminine products that you'll need each month. Sure, you could go to the store and buy a box of tampons for much cheaper, but you wouldn't be able to buy all of these extras for the price! The only downside for me is that brands like Kotex and Always are not cruelty-free (they are owned by parent companies that test), so if shopping cruelty-free is on your list of must-haves, that's something to consider with this box.
- Visit Bonjour Jolie and sign up for a subscription - if you'd like, please mention that you found them through "See, Shop, Love!" in the section of the profile that asks what website you discovered them at. This is not a referral/affiliate credit or anything for me, but just a way for them to know that people are noticing their reviews.
- Connect with them on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest
