Beardsmen Spirit Beard Oil Review

I'm glad I have Pete to help me with reviews like this because, unfortunately, I do not have any facial hair! I still like to feature men's grooming products, though, since guys deserve to look and feel good, too. The Beardsman Spirit Beard Oil is a great way to help your guy (or you, if you're a guy!) keep his beard in pristine condition.

We received a bottle of the Bold Forest scented beard oil to try and Pete and I both love the scent! It smells exactly how I would imagine it would based on the name--very fresh and reminiscent of pine trees. It's made from 100% natural oils and is also cruelty-free. Here's a full list of ingredients:

Prunus dulcis (almond oil), ricinius commus (castor oil), simmondsia chinensis (jojoba oil), vitis vinifera (grapeseed oil), eucalyptus globulus (eucalyptus essential oil), juniperus virginana oil (cedarwood oil), pinus sylvestris oil (pine needle oil)

The label says that "a few drops is like stepping into a lush green forest. Its clean yet bold manly scent will leave you smelling like a true beardsman!"

The bottle is 4 fl oz and is enough to last a long time. The top of the bottle has a stopper that allows a few drops of the liquid to come out at a time. Pete said that the liquid dispensed quicker than he thought it would, so the first time around he ended up with too much on his hands, so just a few light shakes are enough to get what you need.

The oil promises to be lightweight and non-greasy and will keep your beard conditioned and shiny.  Pete used this as an aftershave and said it left the small hairs that he didn't get during his shave feel soft. He also used it on his neck and said it made his skin feel very soft, smooth, and refreshed. I told him that he can also pat a little onto his beard at any time to keep it conditioned.

Bottom Line: Pete really enjoyed using the Beardsmen Spirit Beard Oil and he highly recommends it. I recommend it based on the scent alone! I also appreciate that it's cruelty-free and made only from natural oils.

OZ Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Serum Review

Hyaluronic acid was not new to me, but I had never really known why it was good for your skin. I recently started hearing more and more about it so I decided to look into it further. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring substance in the body that can be found in the highest concentrations in your eyes and joints. As far as skin care goes, it’s known as a “fountain of youth” that can help prevent the signs of aging. That’s where the OZ Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Serum comes in!

OZ Naturals was co-founded by Angela Irish, a certified esthetician. She wanted to create products that would promote healthy skin using natural ingredients.

The OZ Naturals Hyaluronic Acid is a clinical strength anti-aging, anti-wrinkle serum that’s proven to plump skin and fill in fine lines and wrinkles. It’ll give your skin a moisture boost and a dewy glow. It’s also cruelty-free and vegan. The serum is made in the USA in an FDA-registered facility. It also contains vitamins C and E for added benefits.

I’ve been using the OZ Natural Hyaluronic Acid for about a week now and while I don’t suffer from wrinkles or fine lines (yet!), I am thoroughly impressed with this serum. I think preventive care is really important when it comes to your skin and this serum is an effective and affordable way to do that. The instructions say to wash skin and pat dry, then apply toner if you use it. A thin layer of the serum should then be applied after your toner, followed by your regular moisturizer.

I like that the applicator is a stopper bottle because it makes it easy to dispense just enough product. The bottle contains 1 fl oz of serum, but since a little goes a long way I think this will last me for quite a while.

The serum glided smoothly onto my skin and absorbed quickly, and it left my skin feeling moisturized but not weighed down. I have oily skin so I don’t want to use anything that will exacerbate that greasy feeling I get mid-afternoon and this definitely does not do that. In fact, the serum actually works to balance out your skin’s moisture levels, so with longer use I’m hoping that it will help me decrease my skin’s excess sebum product.

Bottom Line: I love the OZ Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Serum and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to add hyaluronic acid into their skincare regimen. I think that it works well from what I’ve seen so far and I love that it is cruelty-free and that it’s 92% natural and 72% organic. It’s also incredibly affordable! 

April Neck Tiephoon Review

I feel like more and more men's subscriptions are popping up everywhere and that's a great thing! Neck Tiephoon is a new tie subscription that's perfect for the guy who wants to look great without having to go out and shop for himself.

Neck Tiephoon sends high fashion ties straight to the discerning man's door. The ties are randomly selected, but unless you really hate surprises, that shouldn't be a problem because they only send high quality ones. This allows them to keep the price point affordable. Speaking of, here are the three price options:

• Basic Subscription - $10 per month
• Premium Subscription - $25 per month
• Monthly Tie Subscription Plus - $35 per month

I couldn't find a description on their website about the difference between the Basic and Premium subscriptions, but I would guess that the Premium ties are from higher-end brands. The Monthly Tie Subscription Plus comes with a tie and an additional random piece, such as a tie bar, cuff links, or "something completely random for the well-dressed gentle person you are," per the Neck Tiephoon website.

Orders are shipped on the 15th of every month and you will automatically be re-billed on the 1st of each month for that month's tie. You can cancel anytime. I'm not sure if they ship outside of the U.S. because I couldn't find an answer on their site.

I appreciate simple packaging because I don't enjoy wasteful box-inside-a-box nonsense or the like, so I was pleased that Neck Tiephoon ships in a simple white box. The tie is well-protected inside, so no need to worry about it getting ruined en route to you.

The tie is folded up and packaged inside of a protective plastic wrapper and padded with tissue paper. I made the mistake of assuming that the plastic opened on the smaller end of the tie (I know, that doesn't really make sense now that I think about it), so when I picked it up it slid out from the bottom of the wrapper. Luckily my floors aren't too dirty, ha!

The tie we received is a red paisley design from Manzini Neckwear Collection. I had never heard of this brand before and after a quick Google search I found that ties from them retail anywhere from $2.00 to around $15 on outlet sites and eBay. I couldn't find an actual website for the brand.

Before I talk more about the retail value, a little about the tie itself: it is well-made and feels nice and sturdy. By sturdy I mean that it will hold up for a long time; I know skinny, flimsy ties are fashionable now but Pete and I both prefer a good, solid tie. Paisley isn't his favorite pattern, but he does like red and will definitely wear this to work.

Now, on to what I think will be disappointing for some: I'm not so sure that the retail value of the ties that Neck Tiephoon sends will be equivalent to the price you pay for the box. I will say that I'm not sure if I was sent a "Basic" or "Premium" tie, so if this was a Basic shipment then I totally think it's worth it. Even though I found Manzini ties retailing for pretty low prices, I think $10 is fair and close enough in value to what I saw in other stores. Plus, the fact that Pete didn't have to go out shopping to find this was convenient and much appreciated by him. That being said, if I had paid the Premium or Monthly Tie Subscription Plus price I would have been disappointed.

Bottom Line: Most men I know do not enjoy shopping so I think subscriptions like Neck Tiephoon have added value due to their convenience. This subscription is perfect for men who have to wear business dress to work (or elsewhere) on a regular basis and is a great way to build up a tie collection. I'm interested to see what types of things are sent in the Premium and Subscription Plus boxes, since maybe they have a higher approximate retail value than the tie I received.

April Scentbird Review - Vera Wang Princess Night

Scentbird has become one of my favorite subscriptions, and I used to hate getting perfume samples! I guess I never really appreciated fragrance until I tried this subscription out. Now I can't wait to get my package each month and I'm constantly adding new perfumes to my Scentbird queue!

Scentbird is a perfume subscription that costs $14.95 per month, shipping included. Currently they only ship to the United States. I live in New York and tax applies, so my shipments cost somewhere around $16. It's still well worth it, though!

The way it works is you add perfumes you'd like to try to your queue, and each month Scentbird will send you a .27 fl oz atomizer with the scent you chose inside. Your first shipment will include a Scentbird purse spray case and a felt bag to keep it in (see what those look like here). Subsequent months will consist only of the atomizers (pictured above), but you can spray them on their own even without the case.

Scentbird has tons of perfumes to choose from, and they even recommend some to you based on the scent profile you fill out when you first sign up. If you prefer to be surprised, simply leave your queue empty and they'll send you a random perfume.

For April I chose Princess Night by Vera Wang, which I remembered loving in high school. I love warm scents that border on gourmand, and this one is the perfect balance of that. It has notes of sugarcane, vanilla, raspberry, watermelon, and red berries. It's definitely a sweet one, but if you like those types of perfumes as much as I do I'm sure you would love this.

Bottom Line: My last two perfumes were just okay (not the fault of Scentbird, I just didn't end up caring for them as much as I thought I would), so I was glad I got one that I knew I would love this month. I have Bvlgari Omnia Coral in my queue for next month!

RITUALS Sakura Collection Rice Scrub Review

I love any product that will let me have a spa-like experience at home, and RITUALS is an amazing brand of cruelty-free body and skincare that does just that! Their new Sakura Collection blends the sweetness of cherry blossoms with nourishing organic rice milk for an incredible experience, inside and out.

My first experience with RITUALS was when I reviewed their Good Luck Scrub last November and I was impressed by the quality of their products. This time I got to try the Rice Scrub from their Sakura Collection.

Rice is a symbol of abundance, happiness, and fertility throughout Asia. The essence of rice in the Sakura Collection line makes skin soft, supple, and glowing. The sakura blossom, or Japanese cherry tree blossom, symbolizes the rebirth of nature and purity in Japanese culture and has a soft, delicate fragrance. These two components combine in this wonderful body scrub for a very effective, great smelling experience!

I have always loved the scent of Japanese cherry blossom so I was excited to try this scrub. I used it in the shower and was immediately in love with the scent. I don't enjoy fragrances that are very strong florals, but luckily this is very calming and soft. It also has a woodiness to it that I enjoy. I loved using it in the shower because the combination of the steam from the warm water and the calming scent made me feel incredibly relaxed.

The scrub itself is fine yet gentle, if that makes sense. I wouldn't use it on my face, but it's not too rough for the rest of your body. The organic rice extract sloughs away dead skin and leaves everything feeling nice and smooth. I also like that it's in a squeeze tube; when I get a scrub that comes in a tub I sometimes find it awkward to use in the shower because I want to scoop a little out at the time but I also don't want to get a ton of excess water in it (from my hands dripping, etc). This easily dispenses from the tube so I don't have to worry about any of that.

I do want to note that this has sodium laureth sulfate (SLS) listed as the second ingredient, so if you try to stay away from sulfates then this might not be for you.

Bottom Line: The RITUALS Sakura Collection Rice Scrub smells fantastic and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth. I think it's the perfect body scrub!
