Deux Lux Mystery Box Review

Deux Lux is one of my favorite handbag brands, and I probably would have never even known about them had it not been for the now-defunct Little Black Bag.  Their purses and accessories were always incredibly popular on LBB and I was able to trade for/purchase quite a few, but I have a problem and I can never have enough!  Every so often they'll hold a sample sale at their flagship store in NYC, but since I can't just go to New York on a whim I usually just sit in my apartment, wishing I was there to snag a ton of purses at awesome prices.

But luckily for me (and other DL fans that aren't so close to the city), with this past sale they offered a Mystery Box!  It cost $40 and promised to include three random items, and of course I bought one.  I probably should have gotten two because it was such a great deal.  The only thing I didn't like was that I never got a shipment notice or a tracking number, but the website said it would ship within three to five days, so I just waited and hoped that they would make good on their promise.  I think this took about six days to get to me after I bought it, but that's not too bad.

My first item is the Wink Mini Messenger, which retails for $90 on the Deux Lux site.  It's my favorite item from the box; I love crossbodies and this one is really cute.  I love the stitched detailing and the gold chain strap.  It's small, but it definitely has enough space for your cards, keys, and a few makeup items.  I have a DL Empire Card Case from a Little Black Bag purchase that would fit perfectly in this bag!

I also got a wallet, but I don't know what it's called because it's no longer for sale on their website.  I love the way it looks, the faux snake print and gold detailing is really pretty.  All of the Deux Lux wallets of this size have the same design, they zip open and have three compartments with eight card slots (there's a photo of the inside of the wallet further down in the post).  My best guess on the retail value of this is around $60, since that's what the other wallets are listed for on the site.

Last up is the High Line Clutch, my least-favorite item in the box.  I'm not a clutch fan to being with, and I don't really care for the design (it's also quite big at 9" x 14").  It kind of reminds me of a bad pair of jeans.  Regardless, I'll still use this as an iPad case or to store makeup or something when I travel.  I can definitely find a use for it.  The retail value is $85.

Bottom Line: I hope Deux Lux has Mystery Boxes every time they have a sample sale from now on!  I will absolutely positively be buying many more if they do since they are a fantastic deal and I love being surprised.  If I had purchased each of these items individually, it would have cost me $235.  I'm not sure what price they were sold for at the sample sale, but it doesn't really matter to me because I'm very happy that it only cost me $40 for them.

December Little Black Bag Review

I decided to open a Little Black Bag for December (I actually bought two) because I only open when there's a purse I really want.  This time it was a Deux Lux crossbody, and if you've been around my blog for a little while you'll know that Deux Lux is one of my favorite brands!

I received a four item bundle that cost me $45.90 after shipping (I also got a Goose Creek candle that isn't pictured above).  I really love the purse, and the socks and earrings will be put to good use as well.

The Deux Lux Laurel Canyon Small Messenger in Teal is the item I opened with, and it has a retail value of $115.  I bought another small messenger from Deux Lux (the Bowery B-Sides) off of eBay shortly before receiving this one, and it has basically the same shape.  I was a bit concerned because the top flap of the Bowery doesn't lift up very far and the bag itself doesn't stretch too far, but this one is roomier.  The bottom has a zipper that expands, so I'm able to fit a lot more into it.  I'm really happy with this bag!

I know that the Lemon brand socks have been pretty popular with LBB users, but I was never really that interested in them.  I shipped this pair because trading was horribly slow, as usual, and I couldn't really trade for anything else.  These are the Lemon Farmhouse Herringbone Knee-Hi socks and they are really nice quality.  They're super soft and I do like them, but I can't say I would have bought them otherwise.

Another item I received because I couldn't trade for anything else was this pair of earrings by Robert Rose, the Oval Stone Drop Earrings.  They only retailed for $8 I think, so clearly no one was willing to trade down that much, but I'm actually very happy with them and didn't mind shipping them because I think they're pretty.  I don't like to wear earrings that are too long, and these dangle but are just the right size so that they don't get in my way or irritate me.

My final item was the Goose Creek Candle Co Winter Splendor Large Jar Candle.  I love it!  I'm a total candle hoarder and I've gotten other Goose Creek candles from LBB before, so I knew they were good quality.  This one smells just like Christmas--the notes I can pick out the most while it's burning are pine and a slight hint of spice.  It's 26 oz and has a burn time of 150 hours, so it will last me for a while.

Bottom Line: In the past I would have been able to get a better bang for my buck and more items on LBB, but I'm still happy with this bundle.  All of the items were good quality and things I'll use, so I can't complain too much.

New Deux Lux Goodies!

Back in October Deux Lux held a "What's in your Deux Lux bag?" contest and I won!  I have been completely obsessed with the brand since I found out about them on Little Black Bag, so to win three brand new pieces was really exciting!

Above is the photo I entered into the contest.  It shows the Mojito Small Tote I was taking to work at the time, along with my Daiquiri PDA, Maldives ID holder (that I kept my work badge in), Skipper Wristlet (that I kept miscellaneous makeup in), and my Gigi iPad Case.

And here's what I won!  These three items were a Deux Lux staffer's favorites from the fall collection: the Essex Tote, Foiled Cosmetic Case, and Double Cross Wallet.  I was eyeing the Essex Tote but decided I probably wouldn't buy it because it retails for $105 and I already have three or four Deux Lux totes, so when I found out that it was one of the prizes I knew I had to enter the giveaway.  It's a gorgeous tote and I love the faux python detailing.  I was also really happy that I got the Plum color, because that one was my favorite of the four it comes in!

The Double Cross Wallet is a great size and could easily double as a clutch.  It's 9" x 5" and can hold up to 12 cards, and it also has a zip pouch for coins and two bill dividers.  I love the color and the gold hardware, and the turn-lock closure is one I've never seen on a wallet before.  I'm not currently carrying this wallet because I prefer my Aurora (also by Deux Lux) with the zip closure, but I would definitely use this as a clutch the next time I go out.

The Foiled Cosmetic Case is also beautiful.  It's just so shiny!  It's a lot bigger than I imagined it would be (6" x 5" x 2.5"), but that's not a complaint.  I'm currently using this for when I go to my boyfriend's house (we're long distance) and I keep my travel-sized hair care products in it.  I received the gold color, and it also comes in silver and navy.

Bottom Line: I'm so thankful that I won this giveaway!  All of the prizes exceeded my expectations, like every other Deux Lux product I've ever owned.  If you've never heard of the brand before, I highly encourage you to check them out.  Every DL item I have is high quality and well worth the money.  If you're on a more limited budget, check out Little Black Bag or Marshall's/TJ Maxx; sometimes they have items from past seasons available.
