Urban Decay Naked Palette Review

Just when I thought I had all the Urban Decay eyeshadow I'd need for a while (see my BOS IV review here), my boyfriend surprised me with the Naked palette!  He gifted it to me this past weekend and I was, of course, very excited and thankful.  He knew I had been lusting after it because I'd always drag him into Sephora while we were at the mall so I could drool over it.  I chose Naked over Naked 2 because I just like the shade selection better.

Yes, you can tell in these photos that I used the shadows.  You really didn't expect me to wait to use it, did you?  You also may be thinking, "Why bother?  Everyone has seen the Naked palette already."  Very true, but I just wanted to be able to write about it because I'm so excited to have it!

The palette came with a Good Karma Shadow Brush and a mini Eyeshadow Primer Potion (the old packaging).  I LOVE THIS BRUSH.  The bristles are extremely soft.  I haven't yet invested in a good set of brushes (I know, I know, I really should), but now I'm definitely swayed toward purchasing some from the Good Karma line.  My only complaint about the brush is that sometimes the less-pigmented shadows don't have as much payoff; for those I prefer to use my finger to just smudge it onto my lids.

I haven't swatched the individual shadows yet, but I plan to.  The palette comes with: Virgin, Sin, Naked, Sidecar, Buck, Half Baked, Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle, Creep, and Gunmetal.  My hands-down favorite shade is Half Baked because I love gold and glittery.  I'm also loving Gunmetal and Creep, both of which I wasn't quite sure I would like to begin with.

Bottom Line: If you love neutrals like me, I would recommend investing in this palette.  It's a bit pricey ($50), but worth the splurge if you can afford it.  The shades, as a whole, have good color payoff, so you won't need to use a lot.  The brush and primer potion are added bonuses, which I think helps to add to the value.  There is also a decent mix of shimmers and mattes, so you can play with texture as well as color.

I have up-close photos of the palette and swatches behind the cut.

  3. I have light skin( tan in the summer) blonde hair blue eyes and I think I have a neutral skin tone. I would rather have the primer then the lip junkie and rather have the dual ends brush then the one sided! What palette would you suggest (1 or 2)?

    1. Even though Naked 2 is technically "cooler," I think you could probably get away with either the cooler shades or the warmer ones with Naked. I personally love the primer, and I think it's a better product to have than the Lip Junkie. I would recommend going with the original Naked palette, but I guess it's up to you on whether you want the dual or one sided brush. I think you'll be really happy with whichever one you chose, though!

    1. If you have tanned skin, you probably have warm undertones. One easy way to tell is: do you look better in silver jewelry (cool undertones) or gold (warm undertones)? Even though the shades in Naked 2 are "cooler," I think they would still look good on most people regardless of their undertones.

  5. I am thinking of getting this palette, but im scared i won't get $50 worth of use from it! Im a sophmore in high school, and i just started getting into makeup last school year, and didn't even wear eyeshadow until the last part of it. Do you recomend i wait?

    1. Since you just started wearing makeup, I think this palette would actually be a really good choice for you because the neutral shades are a good introduction to eyeshadow. They'll be perfect for wearing to school and won't look too crazy since they're nice browns and pinks. I use my palette every day and definitely think that it's worth the $50 price tag, but I guess it's mostly a factor of whether you want to spend that much right away. I would only recommend that you hold off on buying it if you can't truly afford it right now, because there are also some great neutral shades you can get for much cheaper (although they might not be as high of quality). Whatever you end up with, I encourage you to buy cruelty-free products (not tested on animals!) -- check out leapingbunny.org for a huge list of companies that don't test. I hope that helps!

  6. Are the matte shades very pigmented? I like the palette and when i tried it in the shop that seemed to be the only downfall ? But i couldn't really tell as i was in a rush ? Also do the shimmers look really shimmery cos im worried i will look to sparkly thanks xx

    1. I think the mattes are really nicely pigmented. You can view my swatches in the entry to get an idea of the color payoff. There aren't a ton of mattes in the palette anyway, but "Buck" is my favorite one. The shimmers are definitely visibly shimmery, but they aren't too sparkly I don't think. I wear these shades to work every day and I think they're very office-appropriate (shimmers and mattes).
