August Kid Wonder Review and Coupon

Kid Wonder is a box full of crafts and fun activities to encourage children to learn through play! Each month you'll receive a box full of imagination to help busy parents grow creativity in their kids.

*Disclaimer: This box was sent to See, Shop, Love! in exchange for an honest review.

Kid Wonder was created by two moms, Christina Lantsman and Amber Furlong, who wanted to provide families an affordable and meaningful way to take a break from TV, phone, and computer screen time by offering a carefully and thoughtfully curated subscription box.

Currently they have a Little Dreamers box for children ages 3-6, and there's also a siblings option that contains enough supplies for two kids. They also have a Big Adventurer's Box (ages 5-8) with adventures through history and a Junior Explorers Box (ages 7-10) with world explorations in the works. Here are their pricing options for the Little Dreamers Box:
  • Monthly: $24.95 per month / $39.95 for siblings
  • Three Months: $74.85 every three months / $119.85 for siblings
  • Six Months: $149.70 every six months / $239.70 for siblings
  • 12 Months: $274.45 every 12 months / $439.45 for siblings
The three-, six-, and 12-month options are a one-time prepay with the option of auto-renewing available at checkout. The monthly option auto-renews each month until you cancel.

Shipping is $5 flat rate to U.S. addresses, $15 to Canada, and $20 to the U.K.

This is a review for the Pirates and Mermaids box! The theme changes each month, and next month is about wilderness exploration. Inside is a booklet with brightly colored activities and stories for kids to practice reading.

The box had five activities inside, ranging in difficulty, messiness, and time involved. None of them are too laborious, considering they're made for children aged 3-6, but I like that they clearly mark the effort involved so parents know what they're getting into. All of the activities should be done with parent supervision, also.

The first activity is Dress Like a Pirate and it has lots of feathers and foam cutouts that you can use to create a cute little pirate costume. There are also inserts with each craft that have other quick activities on them.

Activity two is An Arrr-mazing Show! and is the least messy, difficult, and time-consuming of all of the crafts. It includes two spoons that you can decorate with foam attachments to create two little puppets, and there's also a mini stage to put together.

Next up is a Treasure Hunt, which is exactly what it sounds like. There are mini instruction cards (pictured middle left above) for parents, plus a certificate and treasure map for the kids. The treasure came in a little drawstring pouch (pictured middle right).

The fourth activity is Pirate's Booty Slime, which I attempted to do myself and it went horribly wrong. I don't have kids but I still wanted to try out at least one of the activities for this review so that I could relay my experiences. I'm not sure where I went wrong, but my slime was not really malleable, it ended up kind of just being a big sloppy mess. This is not a criticism of the actual activity -- I think I just did it wrong and didn't spend enough time mixing the ingredients, so it didn't form well. But this was definitely the messiest activity in the box, so be sure to have lots of space and towels available to clean up messy hands!

The final activity is Design a Pirate Ship! and it is the most time-consuming of the five. There are little wooden pieces to put together, along with other paper activities of kids to complete.
Bottom Line: I think Kid Wonder is a great box for parents/guardians and kids! I can't believe it's only $24.95 for all of these crafts. Everything was high-quality and had great detail. I know I would have loved getting a box like this when I was a kid. I especially like that each box is themed and has other activities and reading practice for kids to go along with the hands-on crafts!
