March and April Birchbox Review

I don't know how bloggers who get more than the three or four boxes I subscribe to keep up with their reviews, because I feel like I'm constantly behind a month!  Anyway, I'm combining my March and April Birchbox posts in hopes of getting through my March reviews quicker.

March's theme was "Spring Forward."  This box was pretty good; not one that made me incredibly excited, but all of the products were decent and relevant to my beauty habits.

  • DDF Ultra Lite Oil Free Moisturizing Dew - I was pleasantly surprised at the size of this bottle; it's definitely enough product to last for a while.  I'm currently inundated with facial moisturizers, but I did give this one a try for a few days and I liked how silky it felt.
  • 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream - This is actually my favorite eye cream, and this sample came at the perfect time because I had just run out of the tube I was using!  I'll probably order another one through Birchbox at some point.
  • Lulu Organics Lavender + Clary Sage Hair Powder - I liked that this was from an organic brand and that it was a product I would definitely use, but I didn't care for the packaging.  It's not easy to tap out just the right amount.  Instead of trying to dispense some into my hands, I decided instead to just dip the tips of my fingers in and then run them through my hair.
  • POP Beauty Cat Eyes - I got the shade "Black Dahlia," which was actually a dark purple.  I was still using eDivv at the time (a beauty sample trading site), so I posted this for trade and it was quickly snatched up.  It's probably a great product, I just don't ever wear eyeliner.
  • Air Repair Rescue Balm - I haven't used much of this sample because I didn't care for how it smelled.  It just smells kind of medicinal to me, and not in a good way.  I used it once or twice on my lips but just didn't care for it.

April's box was a miss for me.  I didn't absolutely abhor the selection, but none of the products seemed that great to me.  I also was excited because I hadn't gotten any of those stupid slip packets (I don't really know what to call them) in my boxes for the past few months, but this month saw the return of them.  I just think they're pointless and wasteful.
  • Number 4 Reconstructing Masque - I used this last night and it's just okay.  I've used other hair masks that worked much better than this one.  My hair felt somewhat softer after, but not enough that it would make me want to buy a full-sized version for $58.00.  My hair had better feel like heaven for that price!
  • Number 4 Clarifying Shampoo - This shampoo promises not to strip hair of its natural oils, but I usually don't go near anything with the word "clarifying" in it anyway.  I gave this one shot, but I didn't care for it.  I didn't like the scent, and since my hair is regularly heat styled I'd rather stick to my moisturizing shampoos.
  • BijaBody Daily Body Serum - I actually haven't tried this yet simply because I forgot about it.  I like using body oils/serums, though, so I think this will probably be a good product for me.
  • KIND Healthy Grain Bar - I got the "Maple Pumpkin Seeds with Sea Salt" flavor and it was so good!  I love salty/sweet combos, and this was perfectly that.  I like KIND bars, but they're on the more expensive side so I usually don't buy them.
  • Color Club Nail Art Duo - I've never had a nail art pen so I was excited to try this (I also love Color Club as a brand), but I got boring white.  I'm sure there's a lot I could do with it, I was just hoping for the purple shade that was also available.
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel - I like this.  It's not something I would ever think to buy for myself, but it's practical.  I use it on my brows and to tame flyaways on my actual hair in the morning.
Bottom Line: March and April were just okay months for me.  I'm hoping June and July bring products I'm more excited about!  I'd also like to see more natural and certified-organic products in future Birchboxes.

  1. for the color club pen, you could always do white polka dots or stripes over a purple polish! :)

    1. Definitely a cute idea! I'm going to have to work on my hand control lol but I will certainly give that a shot.

  2. I hate those slip thingies too! What an absolute waste of time, money, resources, everything! I hope I get the brow gel some time. :)

    1. Ugh I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates those slip things!

And the brow gel is great, I definitely recommend it.

    1. I'm really surprised that they don't have international shipping by now, especially when so many other, smaller boxes do! I hope you can try them out soon!
